Sutter Health Patient Advocate-Per Diem in San Francisco, California
Under the general direction of the Patient Advocate Supervisor this position is responsible for ensuring that financial responsibility for all admissions types that are assigned to them are secured. Securing financial responsibility includes, obtaining authorization, eligibility and verification of benefits. This position handles In-patient, Observation, & ASU admissions. The Patient Advocate will also perform estimates and communicate patient liability based on expected charges and potential coverage and presents the patient/guarantor of his/her liability and collects appropriate liability. This position provides financial counseling to uninsured and underinsured patients for potential Financial Assistance.
Education / Experience *
High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Associates degree or higher level education preferred
Three years prior hospital or other medical office experience, preferably with financial counseling or related responsibilities
Through knowledge of Government regulations and requirements, managed care contracts and third party requirements
Through understanding of all Insurance products/plans
Thorough knowledge of admissions and insurance verification and authorization processes in the hospital/medical office setting
Excellent knowledge of insurance terminology and CPT-4 codes
Skills and Abilities :
Excellent English communication skills in both written and verbal formats
General understanding of Patient Accounting System
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. (Particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook).
