Sutter Health Manager, Cancer Data Services - Medical Oncology in Berkeley, California
Oversees major Cancer Data Services functions for all assigned campuses . This includes: case acquisition and suspense; medical record chart orders; case abstracting and data entry; California, American College of Surgeons (ACOS), Quality oncology Performance Initiative (QOPI) National Accreditation for Breast Centers (NAPBC) , Survival, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program required data reporting; data quality control; Cancer Conferences and follow-up; reports and special studies. Assists in facilitation of Cancer Committee quarterly meetings.
Manages ABSMC Cancer Registry database, including installing software patches and updates and assignment of security rights to database users. Performs regular database backups in addition to daily network server backups. Also performs other routine database maintenance chores as required.
Works with Oncology department Leads, and Physicians to compile the data for the Cancer Program Annual Report. Responsible for quality control and preparation of clinical studies and statistical reports as requested. Manages registry staff, including Cancer Registrars , Follow-up Technicians, and Contractors.
Represents Cancer Registry on the Multi-disciplinary Cancer Committee. Works with Cancer Committee Chairman and the Cancer Service Line Director to insure Cancer Program meets American College of Surgeons, QOPI and NAPBC requirements for full accreditation.
Participates in special projects requested or sponsored by Sutter Clinical Integration. Represents ABSMC on the Sutter Data Managers Committee, a meeting of cancer registrars from all Sutter network ACOS certified hospitals, for the purpose of maintaining quality and uniformity of data submitted for Sutter projects. May also be asked to serve on other special projects or committees at the affiliate and network level where cancer registry expertise is needed. Other duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications, Licensure
HS Diploma Required
Certified Tumor Registrar - CTR Required
General computer, software application, and database management courses highly preferred
Completion of a recognized Cancer Registrar’s training program (or educational equivalent). College-level cancer registry education is preferred
Minimum three years experience in performing full spectrum of Cancer Data Services tasks, including abstracting experience in a hospital setting preferred
Prefer minimum two years experience as Cancer Registrar with supervisory responsibilities over technical staff preferred
Skills and Knowledge
Thorough knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical/oncology terminology.
General computer, software application, and database management skills highly preferred.
Demonstrated management, leadership and inter-personal skills with ability to interact effectively and professionally with physicians and hospital staff.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
