JOB SUMMARY

The grill cook assists with menu and recipe planning and may assist in cost analysis and planning of current and prospective food items. The grill cook prepares short order grill cooking of items in the dining room for staff and visitors. Coordinates own food prep and production with others so foods are ready and served as specifies times. This may entail stocking, filling and rotating of food, monitoring quality and accuracy of dates. Grill cook ensures that correct foods are ordered to specified levels and maintains temp log for accurate and safe storage of food.Prepares sandwiches and serves a variety of food to customers. The grill cook may also be responsible for overseeing the back of the house cooking when needed and time allows, assisting the back of the house coordinator in doing food prep and salad prep following standardized recipes and HCAAP guidelines. The grill cook adheres to safe food handling practices and is responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy work area throughout shift and following behavior standards. They may also be responsible for helping with catering prep and may also help in the dish room, as time allows. The grill cook will also be responsible for cashiering as the need arises. In the cashiering role they assure that proper cash handling techniques, cash records and security is maintained. The grill cook may be responsible for overseeing training of other short order cooks, as needed. Grill cook is responsible for maintaining food handler's certificate. Grill cook is responsible for providing excellent customer service to our customers and vendors and acts as a role model for the department, exemplifying The Sutter Difference.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School diploma or equivalent experience/education. Individual exceptions will be made if the applicant has had a work history demonstrating the ability to perform in a similar position.

EXPERIENCE

Previous food service production, cashiering and sanitation experience is desirable, but not necessary. Prior experience demonstrating the ability to work with the public in a positive and friendly manner is desired. Prior experience in food preparation is required. Basic grill cooking skills and sandwich making experience is required.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Serv-Safe Certified – SS within 180 days required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to read, write and speak English as well as understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions. Must have sufficient mathematical ability to perform basic measurement and portioning activities including increasing and decreasing recipes. Ability to work under pressure and multi-task in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
