Description

Provides coverage for the following functions in the Health Information Management Department (HIM) as required, including varied hours/days as dictated by operational need; Release of Information, Document Imaging, and Phones. Required to work flexible days/hours to provide coverage as needed in the HIM Department. Use of the electronic and paper health record with protected health information as needed to accomplish the job duties.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Other:

AA/AS degree required OR equivalent combination of recent, relevant work experience and education. Release of Information Certification required within one year of start. Medical Terminology Course required. Must pass Sutter proficiency testing within first six months of start.

Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience and a proven track record in Document Imaging and Release of Information in a facility of significant size and complexity, hospital business operations, information systems, and coding applications, as typically acquired in 0-2 years of experience in a medical records department, physician’s office/clinic or medical billing service preferred

  • Experience participating in Document Imaging and Release of Information standards, processes, policies, procedures and service level agreements preferred

  • Experience in complex regional/ shared service environment with multiple/ matrix reporting relationships preferred

  • Experience participating in planning new or expanded services and managing projects preferred Knowledge

  • General knowledge of all areas related to Document Imaging/Forms Management and how they interrelate preferred

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to compliant Document Imaging/Forms Management preferred

  • Familiarity with Document Imaging/Forms Management functions in acute settings preferred

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation, Title 22, and State and Federal laws governing the confidentiality of patient information is essential

  • Knowledge of changes in laws relating to release of information by regular attendance of Regional, State and National seminars

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge/ awareness of all areas related to Release of Information and how they interrelate

  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to compliant healthcare fee schedules

  • Familiarity with HIM within the Revenue Cycle

  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records system applications, preferably Epic Skills

  • Ability to comprehend and retain information that can be applied to work procedures to achieve appropriate service delivery

  • Aptitude to implement stated goals and objectives

  • Ability to manage own schedule and responsibilities. Must have initiative to work effectively without constant supervision and direction, meeting all deadlines

  • Ability to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in a fast paced environment with identified productivity requirements and with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, organization, prioritization and time management skills

  • Ability to develop effective working relationships/ networks within and outside the organization
