Performs appropriate radiographic procedures for medical diagnosis under the direction of the radiologist and in accordance with established department procedures. Practices established radiation protection standards. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative. In addition to performing the general duties of a Radiologic Technologist is responsible to maintain compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992(MQSA) through record keeping and reporting.
Knowledge of: X- Rays and film processing; fluoroscopic techniques; assisting physicians with procedures; patient care for adult, and geriatric patients. Must possess or develop an in-depth knowledge of radiologic instrumentation operation and quality control procedures.
Ability to: Consistently demonstrate competence in imaging procedures; demonstrate competence in non-imaging procedures; perform all examinations in accordance with established facility policies and procedures; improvise positioning techniques to produce quality diagnostics; utilize proper body mechanics in the transfer of patients and equipment; communicate and deal effectively with customers (i.e. physicians, employees, patients, general public); and perform periodic audits of processor quality control, processor cleaning, and QC/QI projects. Communicate effectively with all levels of employees, to include medical staff, and the general public; balance multiple tasks, organize, and schedule work and set priorities; maintain strict confidentiality of information; operate equipment as defined by job; provide and follow detailed instruction; and meet attendance requirements
Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience- Sufficient years of experience in healthcare, preferably performing duties comparable to those in an acute care or outpatient clinic. Clinical and practical experience during Radiologic Technology Training is essential. Previous mammography experience is required. Education-Mammography Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-M). Must be certified by the State of California in mammography. Clinical and practical experience during Radiologic Technology Training is essential. Previous mammography experience is required.
