The MRI Technologist performs routine and complex diagnostic imaging procedures according to the written or transcribed verbal order of a physician and within the scope of his/her certification. The MRI Technologist will be skilled in MRI, computer tomography, and in assisting physicians with procedures. He/she will demonstrate competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Coordinate workload and facilitate the flow of completed procedures. Conform to requirements for Radiology Technologist. Will be involved with QC/QI duties, perform periodic audits of processor quality control, processor cleaning, and QC/QI projects. Assist the Imaging Supervisor with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, identifying problem areas, and suggest solutions.

Maintain appropriate supply and stock levels. Serve as a technical resource for the staff and physicians, assuring quality of procedures and compliance with standard protocols.

Keep informed of current facility practices, changes, and/or issues by attending staff meetings. Participate in continuing education throughout the year related to profession in order to maintain current certification and appropriate general/specific modality requirements. Provide current copies of certificates and CEUs for facility files, as achieved. Actively participate in committees, sharing status of activities with co-workers/ supervisors/managers on a periodic basis.Ensure unscheduled absences do not exceed facility guidelines. Provide proper notification of absence or tardiness within guidelines. Observe the facility dress code and grooming standards, and consistently wear name badge. Maximize use of all facility resources, including supplies, own time, and time of others.

Perform duties in an independent manner, with little or no need for direct supervision. Recognize and perform duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned, and regularly assist others. Seek methods to improve current facility practices by identifying problems and proposing viable solutions to Supervisor. Follows safety procedures, operates equipment, and performs job-related duties in such a manner that protects patients from additional radioactive exposure by utilization of best practices in the field of Radiology.


Knowledge of: Magnetic Resonance Imaging; computerized tomography; assisting physicians with procedures; patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.. Ability to: Consistently demonstrate competence in imaging procedures; demonstrate competence in non-imaging procedures; perform all examinations in accordance with established facility policies and procedures; to improvise positioning techniques to produce quality diagnostics; utilize proper body mechanics in the transfer of patients and equipment; communicate and deal effectively with customers (i.e. physicians, employees, patients, general public); and perform periodic audits of processor quality control, processor cleaning, and QC/QI projects. Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience - Three or more years experience in CT scanning and magnetic resonance imaging . As well as sufficient years of experience in healthcare, preferably performing duties comparable to those in an acute care or outpatient clinic. Education —Requires graduation from a hospital or college-based AMA-approved school of radiologic technology. Certified Radiologic Technologist designation in California, and AART-MR certification. Other: Must be able to work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as circumstances require; able to organize work assignments, maintain accurate and complete records and able to maintain a high degree of accuracy in procedural detail.
