The OR Charge Nurse is directly responsible for patient care delivered during the operative period and indirectly responsible through coordination and information sharing with the Pre-Op and PACU staff. The OR Charge RN serves as a role model and mentor in the development of clinical skills, communication skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, assessment and team work. The OR Charge RN observes, evaluates, monitors and provides feedback on the delivery of care and services and implements changes in systems and processes to remove barriers in providing efficient, cost effective care.
Knowledge of: Must have the demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully direct the efforts of diverse health professionals to meet patient and physician needs. Extensive knowledge of AORN Standards, infection control and sterilization practices are required. Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards. Current knowledge regarding instrumentation and equipment utilized for various surgical specialties is required, as is knowledge of the types of surgeries being performed at the Center.
Ability to: Demonstrae written and verbal communication skills. Must be flexible, creative individual who is open to change along with the ability to handle multiple priorities. Requires the ability to operate and trouble-shoot PACU equipment.
Experience and Education: Must have a valid current license to practice nursing in the State of California. A Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
Experience - Significant experience working in a multi-specialty OR, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center is required. This level of experience is typically achieved in approximately three years. Must have successful experience as an OR Charge Nurse, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center. This level of competence is typically obtained in approximately two years. Materials management experience is preferred, including application of purchasing processes to order the supplies and equipment required for surgeries being performed at the Center.Must maintain valid CPR certification. ACLS/PALS certification required. Excellent communication skills required.
Other: Must have leadership skills, along with skills in functional supervision/ delegation and human relations. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Must be a flexible, creative individual who is open to change along with the ability to handle multiple priorities. Requires the ability to operate and trouble-shoot PACU equipment. Computer skills are required. Adult training skills are preferred.
