Sutter Lakeside Hospital is located in beautiful Lake County and overlooks Clear Lake, the largest natural lake in California. The hospital has a Critical Access Hospital designation, with 25 inpatient beds. There are 10 outpatient beds, a 12-bed ED, ancillary services (MRI, CT, Nuclear Med, Mammography imaging, lab, pathology, 24/7pharmacy coverage), surgical services (orthopedics, OB/GYN, general surgery, podiatry, ophthalmology, endoscopy), Family Birth Center, Intensive Care Unit, Medical-Surgical Unit, and an Outpatient Care Services Unit performing infusions, wound care and supporting outpatient procedures. The hospital also supports inpatient and outpatient physical, speech, occupational and rehab therapies. Sutter Lakeside’s campus includes two hospital-based rural health clinics, a beautiful community garden and the only Rehab Mobility Park in this part of the state. Lake County has a population of about 66,000 and is located in a fast-growing wine region only 2 hours northwest of Sacramento and 2 hours north of San Francisco.

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) accurately performs clinical laboratory testing in all areas including:chemistry, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, serology, limited microbiology and transfusion services.The CLS provides functional guidance to Phlebotomy Coordinator and Phlebotomists regarding specimen collection criteria, result reporting, and all aspects of pre-analytical testing.The CLS participates in quality control, preventive maintenance, quality assurance, proficiency testing activities, process improvement programs, and department and facility meetings.The CLS evaluates test results for validity prior to result reporting. The CLS communicates critical values and abnormal test findings with clinical staff including Physicians, Nurses, and Dieticians.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science or equivalent. One year internship in a program approved by the State of California. Possession of a valid California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Must complete yearly continuing education requirements. One year experience as a generalist is desirable. Familiarity with PLL based lab information systems is desirable. Demonstrates knowledge of accepted laboratory practices and procedures including proper procurement of specimens, handling and disposing of potentially infectious material. Knowledge of quality control principles and criteria. Demonstrates analytical problem solving skills. Experience in working in all sections of the laboratory. Experience in using automated equipment.
