Sutter Health Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Full Time, Night Shift (7 On / 7 Off) in Modesto, California


This position performs waived and moderate complexity testing as defined by CLIA with the exception of those moderate complexity tests requiring microscopy or in the Transfusion Service. Performs all other laboratory testing necessary for diagnosis and treatment of patients at the request of attending physicians. May also be involved in the reviewing and subsequent releasing of laboratory testing performed by a laboratory technician III. Is responsible for reporting results in a timely and accurate manner as substantiated by the concurrent testing of appropriate control materials.

Performs tests with reasonable accuracy and precision. Able to recognize abnormalities and irregularities in test results, and alert physician and/or nursing staff in a timely manner. Produces error-free reports.

Serving the greater Stanislaus County with 423 plus acute care beds, Memorial Medical Center provides a full continuum of care including 24-hour emergency care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, nuclear medicine, dialysis therapy, diagnostic imaging, intensive care, physical therapy, and home health. Specialized care includes Memorial Regional Cancer Center and Memorial Heart Institute.


Education Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree required , Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory or Related Sciences with one-year hospital clinical training in an approved program preferred .

  • Must meet minimum Continuing Education requirements per MLT license renewal guidelines.

  • Must have current Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

  • Employee must maintain proficiency in at least two technical sections so that reassignment of work location or shift can offer upon request.

Skills and Knowledge Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and technical competence in hematology and chemistry

  • Demonstrates knowledge of critical values, calls tests on time and documents appropriately

  • Demonstrates technical competency by completing annual competency validation

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with the work team

  • Must be able to handle difficult patients and other personnel with calmness and maintain composure at all times

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and practice good public relations at all times

  • Computer skills and literacy are a must

  • Ability to effectively lead, mentor and/or develop others

  • Ability to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects, and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Technical and analytical skills for analysis and interpretation of test procedures and/or results in order to determine appropriate correction actions

  • Proficiency with working with spreadsheets and/or reports and can run specialized reports when needed
