Sutter Health Registered Nurse - First Assistant in Modesto, California


The Registered Nurse First Assistant renders direct patient care as part of the peri-operative team by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. The responsibility of functioning as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) must be based on documented knowledge and skills acquired after specialized preparation and formal instruction from an accredited RNFA program: within MMC approved standardized procedures.

These duties will be performed within approved standardized procedures, under direct supervision of the surgeon, compliant with MMC policies and remain within the scope of practice as stated by the Nursing Practice Act of the State of California. The role of the RNFA will have established clinical privileges. RNFA may not concurrently perform as scrub nurse.

Serving the greater Stanislaus County with 423 plus acute care beds, Memorial Medical Center provides a full continuum of care including 24-hour emergency care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, nuclear medicine, dialysis therapy, diagnostic imaging, intensive care, physical therapy, and home health. Specialized care includes Memorial Regional Cancer Center and Memorial Heart Institute.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, hear and verbally communicate in English to the degree required to perform the job.

  • Works effectively and collaboratively with peers, members of nursing and medical services, and other departments

  • Demonstrates creativity, integrity and initiative.

  • Able to give constructive feedback, supervise and demonstrate team behaviors with staff.

  • Effective skills in communication, problem-solving, interpersonal relationships, and prioritization.

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an RNFA.

  • Current licensure as an R.N. in the State of California.

  • Current BLS certification.

  • Current ACLS and PALS certification.

  • Current CNOR certification

  • Successful completion of didactics and clinicals of a university based RNFA curriculum.

  • Completes orientation, robotics modules and hands on orientation as directed by robotics curriculum.

  • Must be able to travel in and out of Stanislaus County, including transcontinental travel. If MHA and/or own vehicle used on Association business, must possess valid California Driver’s License and upon request proof of liability insurance.
