Job Summary: The Chief Engineer/Facility Operations Manager is the manager of and is responsible for the facilities department operations and personnel. Oversees and coordinates daily operations of the engineering/facilities management department under the supervision of the Director of Facilities or hospital leadership or regional facilities leadership as applicable. Duties of the Chief Engineer/Facility Manager include but are not limited to, management of life safety systems and documentation in accordance with applicable standards and codes set by the Authority Having Jurisdiction, supervision of the preventative maintenance program and troubleshooting the physical plant and related equipment within the facility. The Chief Engineer/Facility Manager supervises specified department staff in the general maintenance of the buildings and grounds, planning and making necessary repairs on equipment. Participates in the preparation and administration of departmental capital and operating budgets.

  • Administers and supervises the Preventive Maintenance program to ensure the continued operation of the physical plant. Monitoring its application to assure maximum effectiveness and provides appropriate documentation of same.

  • Ensures appropriate operation of the utility and equipment systems by monitoring the application of the Preventive Maintenance program.Reviews open preventive maintenance report weekly.

  • Coordinates the repair of equipment or recommends the replacement or addition of equipment to physical plant as necessary. Repairs to essential equipment will be made within 24 hours or less depending on magnitude of the problem and availability of parts, material and or services.

  • Works closely with other departments and Director of Facilities. Negotiates priorities, plans work schedules, makes job assignments, orders needed materials, supplies ,parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as circumstances dictate. Ensures all jobs are documented on work orders for the purposes of tracking, prioritizing and scheduling. All jobs will be completed within scheduled time frames. All materials will be ordered prior to the start of jobs to ensure job will not be held up awaiting material, supplies or parts. Outside specialty contractor will be hired based on knowledge of specialty, prior experience ,references and knowledge of code requirements of the job

  • Conducts, schedules,attends, and orientates PAMF and dept. in-services. Ensures staff will be oriented 90% of the time on Facilities Operations Policies& procedures, hazardous material, equipment and other items related to the department. Ensure that Facilities Operations staff meet 75% attendance rate in approved and suggested classes and 100% in Health Stream classes.This will be accomplished by setting competency level for each job code and training classes established to meet these competency levels ensuring the highest qualified personnel are performing the work necessary on facilities equipment and systems.

  • Participates in development of ,evaluates and implements departmental policies and procedures, goals and objectives. Reviews departmtnal policies and proceedures annualy , makes recommendations for edits and updates revision date.

  • Attends necessary training classes to meet the industrial knowledge needed to pass all State, Federal, Country, City, IMQ, TJC, AAAHC,CMS inspections and surveys.

  • In addition to the key accountabilities listed, employees working in this position are expected to accept and perform other duties as requested.


Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Associate's Building Operations Management preferred.

  • IFMA or BOMA Facilities Management Certificate within 1 year

  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager - within 1 year

  • Universal CFC License - within 4 months

  • At least 3 years progressive experience in supervising or management level position

  • Knowledge of facilities and plant operations in a healthcare environment.
