The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) is a not-for-profit, community-based multispecialty medical group practice. PAMF patients are cared for by more than 1,000 physicians in clinics and medical centers throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. The Medical Assistant (MA) position supports providers and other members of the health care team in clinic offices by performing a variety of back office patient related tasks and ensuring smooth patient and work flow within the department. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing clinical support and patient care, administering medications in accordance to MA Scope of Practice, completing accurate and thorough documentation in the eHR, and providing care and maintenance of medical equipment.

Program participants are fully supported both during and following the program to promote success.



  • High school diploma or equivalent and/or equivalent experience

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program, including at least 160 externship hours, half of which must be back-office.

  • Certification in BLS for Health Care Providers

  • MA Certification from PAMF approved agency (AAMA, CCBMA, NCCT or AMT) within 1 year of employment

  • Basic anatomy and physiology

  • Medical terminology and abbreviations

  • Universal precautions

  • Medication administration including medication dosage calculations

  • Travel to various sites
