Job Summary

Responsible for the coordination of the operational activities of Sterile Processing Department specific to the needs of the SurgiCenter Track. Provides leadership & assistance to staff in the Sterile Processing department and integrates department activities into the goals and initiatives of SPD and the SurgiCenter.

Clear, concise and even communication skills are essential for this position.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise team members and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

Ensure staff compliance with quality. Performs and provides oversight Quality Control/Assurance activities as assigned.

Participates in the development and attainment of department goals

Anticipates, identifies, and manages problems and implements solutions which are operating room and endoscopy room specific

Monitors and documents employee performance and conducts coaching / counseling sessions in collaboration with SPD Manager.

Monitors and documents employee performance and conducts coaching / counseling sessions in collaboration with SPD Manager.

Assists SPD Manager and/or ASC Educator with the orientation of new employees as well as ongoing competency assessment and training of staff.

Participates in the hiring and evaluation of department employees

Collaborates with the PM shift supervisor in support of the success of the Clinic Instrument Reprocessing Track and the overall success of the SPD department.


REQUIRED : Sterile Processing Technician Certification CRCST; Minimum two years of relevant Sterile Processing Technician or Operating Room experience; Understand the principles of quality control and quality assurance for sterilization and decontamination procedures; Thorough understanding of the principles of sterilization; Strong computer skills including Instrument Tracking computer program. Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, staff, physicians and management team members

PREFERRED : Demonstrate leadership abilities; Education: High school graduate or equivalent; Additional Certifications Preferred Certificed Instrument Specialist (CIS) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL), Management experience; Working knowledge of regulatory agency requirements; Ability to learn new skills in a timely manner, absorbing details and applying learned skills; Exhibits independent judgment. A commitment towards ongoing professional and self development.
