Sutter Health Assistant Nurse Manager - Emergency Department Full Time Variable Shift in Oakland, California
The Emergency Department Assistant Nurse Manager will report to the Emergency Nurse Service Line Manager. The Emergency Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Emergency Department Nurse Manager in project management, coordinate education, supervising, coordinating and evaluate unit all functions. The Assistant Nurse Manager will perform other duties as assigned by the Emergency Nurse Service Line Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager will assist in activities to provide cost-effective and high quality care according to the policies, procedures and standards set at ABSMC. The Assistant Nurse Manager is a professional nurse who possesses advanced knowledge of local, state, federal and other health care regulations; and advanced clinical knowledge and skills. He/she will be responsible for assisting in developing and implementing changes in policies, practices, and standardized procedures based upon input from staff and administration, while working in conjunction with the Quality Department to remain congruent with current laws and standards while promoting optimal patient care. The incumbent will also be responsible for acting as a role model and resource/consultant for staff development. This individual will be a contributor with assisting in developing/revising/implementing hospital-wide policies and procedures, related forms, and MD orders which follow all regulatory guidelines on an organizational level.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field preferred or in-progress.
Experience: Progressive nursing leadership as charge nurse or supervisory role in a clinical heath care setting is preferred. Familiarity with agency and regulatory compliance standards in acute healthcare setting. 3 years related in emergency care or related critical area specialty. Prior experience working in a labor union environment, with an understanding of contractual issues and terms, as related to hiring, staging, scheduling issues. Staffing and scheduling experience that includes utilization of acuity and productivity systems and measurement tools fro reliability. Performance Improvement; experience with collecting and analyzing data and presenting. Experience in survey protocols on an organizational level (Joint Commission, State, etc). Experience in development and implementation of policies and procedures on an organizational level using evidence based practice. Experience in interpretation of regulatory language, including having knowledge in regulation requirements on an organizational level. Strong interpersonal skills, Conflict resolutions, negotiation and delegation. Excellent writing, planning, computer and organizational skills. Ability to work in a self-motivated, independent capacity essential. Able to work all shifts, primary shift is days subject to directive of Emergency Service Line Manager. Familiarity with critical thinking, characteristics of the adult learner, adult education principles, learning styles and teaching methods. Advanced knowledge of appropriate local, state, federal and other health care regulations and legal regulations and requirements of specialty.
Knowledge: Knowledgeable about healthcare law, Title 22, Joint Commission, EMTALA and federal, state and local regulation and standards. Ability to read, write, understand and follow English verbal and written instructions. Demonstrates knowledge in clinical nursing and administration (to include but not limited to: Clinical Practice Management, Personnel Management, Fiscal Management, Environmental Management, and Performance Improvement).
License/certification: Current license to practice nursing in California, Certifications: Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CEN strongly preferred. If not available, must obtain certification within 1 year from date of hire.

Computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office is preferred. Must posses effective problem solving and communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to concentrate on multiple and varied tasks. Ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision and effectively establish work priorities. Ability to represent policies and procedures, standardized procedures, pre-printed MD orders and forms at medical staff committees. Ability to collaborate and work effectively with Medical Staff Services and medical staff leadership. Exceptional presentation skills. Performance improvement techniques and tools. Understanding and coping with difficult situations, managing challenging, complex and rapidly changing situations. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Strong prioritization and organizational skills. Analytical skills and ability to understand statistical reports. Must have excellent customer service skills.
