Sutter Health RN Certified Diabetes Educator East Bay Prenatal Diagnosis Full Time in Oakland, California
Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation is a not for profit corporation that exists to provide medical services, research and education. The foundation provides the infrastructure for the delivery of physician services, and contracts with a separate corporation comprised of physicians and other care providers to deliver the clinical services. Under the direction of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist (Perinatologist) the RN, Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) is responsible to provide expert diabetes education to persons with pre-gestational diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2, who are pregnant or planning pregnancy) and with gestational diabetes in a culturally competent manner. Provide the following American Association of Diabetes Education Self Care Behaviors (healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medication, problem solving, reducing risk, and healthy coping) tools to reduce the risk of complications of uncontrolled hyperglycemia and bring outcomes similar to women who do not have diabetes in pregnancy.
This position is located at 5730 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA.
A High School Diploma or equivalent education/experience and an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required. Bachelors/Masters Degree is desired.
RN License with State of California; Certified Diabetes Educator Certification; CPR/BLS is required.
1000 hours of supervised diabetes training to obtain Certification as a Diabetes Educator, CDE is required.
Minimum of two years of recent experience in Labor and Delivery preferred.
Some understanding of managed care, Medi-Cal eligibility, authorization and billing requirements.
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, including Excel and Word.
Experience with EPIC preferred.
Under the direction of the Medical Director and Clinical Supervisor, prioritizes and manages multiple demands in an ever changing environment, providing direct patient care assessing the woman’s nutritional status, blood glucose results, vital signs, medication needs, and assess for other complications of pregnancy.
Providing patient education on the use of glucometers, insulin pumps, self administration of insulin, initiation of oral medications for diabetes and nutritional guidelines for the patient with pre- gestational, (Type 1, Type 2) and gestational diabetes.
Demonstrates use of appropriate instructional content in accordance with American Diabetes Association standards.
Demonstrates proficiency with diabetes management tools, i.e., insulin delivery systems and blood glucose monitors.
Provides care within the SPMF Standardized Procedure for CDE as well as medication addendums, A, B, and C.
