Sutter Health Sonographer II - Ultrasound / Diagnostic Imaging (Per Diem, Varied Shift) in Roseville, California


The Sonographer II / Ultrasound Technologist provides ultrasound imaging in one area of expertise (Diagnostic, Cardiac, or Vascular) and patient care services at defined levels.

  • Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.

  • Implements safety standards to protect to staff and patients.

  • Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.

  • May be required to train / precept students and new techs.

  • Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.

  • Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.

  • Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of imaging and/or invasive procedures.


Education / Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Graduate of an American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) accredited educational program in ultrasonography required.

  • For cardiac ultrasound / echo positions, must be either ARDMS RDCS certified or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certified.

  • ARDMS additional multiple certifications in defined specialty areas such as ABD/GYN, small parts, and vascular preferred.

  • Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Provider through the American Heart Association is required


  • Proven experience in the acute care hospital setting performing sonographic categories of obstetrics and gynecology, abdominal, vascular and small parts is required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic cross-sectional anatomy, pathophysiology and its effect on normal anatomy of the area of scanning competency (obstetrics, cardiology, vascular structures, etc.).

  • Knowledge of how to operate electrical equipment safely is also required.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
