Under the supervision and direction of the Sutter Health Valley Operating Unit Oncology Executive and direction from the Medical Director, the SHVAOU Clinical Director provides clinical expertise for quality improvement and program development on the macro level across of the Valley Area Operating Unit Oncology Service Line. The principle objectives in the service line are clinical integration across sites, implementation of best practices, and to improve efficiency of care delivery utilizing standard care approaches when and where appropriate. This position will work closely with the Oncology Service Line physicians and oncology managers across surgical, medical and radiation oncology. The successful SHVAOU Clinical Director will support the service line’s strategic initiatives from a clinical perspective throughout the care continuum from community education, prevention, diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, and end of life care. The Clinical Director will support best practices in patient care from a high level standpoint, program development, marketing, outcome tracking, coordinating with hospital services, and data management. The Oncology Service Line Clinical Director is responsible for the high level operational integration of SHVAOU oncology services and will directly lead several clinical operations.

The essential functions of leadership, clinical practice, assessment, resource and outcomes management, education and research require regular collaboration with the medical and nursing leaders as well as the medical center’s administration in leading, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating high level aspects of the oncology care continuum. The Clinical Director assumes a leadership role with this multidisciplinary team to define and achieve client outcomes/patient satisfaction as related to quality issues.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or related field is required.

Masters degree in Health Administration or Business Administration is preferred.

California Registered Nurse ("RN") license is required.

Certified Oncology RN - CN-ONCLGY through Oncology Nurse Society is required.

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of practical experience in a variety of oncology settings required.

Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership role sufficient to allow for oversight of clinical staffing and daily operational issues required.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • The Clinical Director will influence care outcomes and implement improvements in health care delivery systems. Integrates nursing practice, which focuses on assisting patients in the prevention or resolution of illness, with medical diagnosis and treatment of disease, injury and disability.

  • The Clinical Director will lead, manage and motivate employees using a wide variety of Human Resources tools including, but not limited to; performance management, corrective action, employee development plan; to meet organizational goals and outcomes.

  • The Clinical Director is an industry expert able to assist in the implementation of best practices across the sites of service.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Quantitative analysis skills to include basic spreadsheet applications and statistics.

  • Effectively utilizes other technical applications, including but not limited to Epic Beacon.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, duties, and assignments simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment and meet scheduled deadlines. Excellent inter-personal, analytical and business development skills. Highly developed communication skills working with varied parties to include hospital staff, management and physicians. Excellent presentation skills (i.e. verbal, PowerPoint, etc.). Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive or protected information.

  • The ability to implement a standardized approach to care delivery.
