Sutter Health Clinical Research Coordinator III (Full-Time, Day Shift) in Sacramento, California


The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) III participates in all areas of planning, coordinating, implementing and summarizing clinical trials and other specific research projects presented to or managed by the Sutter Institute for Medical Research (SIMR). The incumbent has responsibility for managing studies that explore complex medical diseases involving specialty and sub-specialty expertise, which may last several years. With additional training and mentoring, the incumbent may also be assigned inpatient studies. The CRC III will provide training, project leadership, and quality control oversight of less qualified coordinators. This is an exempt position that may require overnight travel and weekend assignments.



  • BS or BA degree in Nursing, Nutrition, Health Science, Business, or Social Sciences is required.

  • MPA, MPHA, Business, Social Sciences, Nursing, etc. is preferred.

Licensures and Certifications

  • Certified Clinical Research Professional - CCRP is required.

  • Certified Clinical Research Coordinator - CCRC is required.

  • Non Clinical\SOCRA - Certification In Clinical Research

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse - LVN with an equivalent combination of education and clinical trials experience, or other category of clinician with equivalent research experience. is required.

  • Registered Research Nurse or equivalent is preferred. (candidates without BS/BA degree, having in excess of 15 years clinical research experience may be considered by DSO and MD)is preferred.


  • Minimum of five years experience conducting clinical trial research is required.

  • It is expected that the preferred candidate will have managed more than 25 drug and device studies.

  • Experience in research, including retrospective data collection, study design, and patient interviewing is required. Direct experience interacting with a variety of patient populations in a variety of settings is required.

  • Prior experience demonstrating the ability to work with minimal supervision and the ability to prioritize and organize work is required.

  • Ability to oversee projects as requested - Project Management Skills

Skills and Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of research regulation requirements, especially regulation involving human subjects in research, FDA regulations, etc.

  • Good leadership and organizational skills.

  • First-hand knowledge with emphasis on nursing process, research principles, hospital policies and nursing standards is helpful.

  • Ability to present clinical information to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written are necessary.

  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to participants, colleagues and subordinates is required. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.

  • Familiarity with PC-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications is required. Phlebotomy certification, EKG, and lab processing experience are required.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires flexibility in the percentage of local and national travel, which includes out-of-town meetings over weekends. PM or weekend shifts are required on a rare basis.

  • On-call/standby hours are required on a rare basis
