Sutter Health Director, Professional Practice & Nursing Excellence (Limited Term) in Sacramento, California
The Director of Professional Practice & Nursing Excellence ("Director") supports the Chief Nursing Officer and is accountable for areas of responsibility that encompass inter-professional practice and health system transformation; professional development, clinical education, and training; leadership; research, innovation and novel models; and evidence-based practice, and quality improvement with a focus on improving quality outcomes. The Director will be responsible for providing leadership and for being a change agent to advance professional practice at the affiliate level that is in alignment with the Sutter system. This includes establishing partnerships, linkages, and collaboration among inter-professional clinical staff and leaders, as well as affiliated academic institutions and professional organizations. The Director will advance a culture of professional & inter-professional practice, foster evidence-based practices and continuous improvement, cultivate lifelong learning, partner in the implementation and enhance technology to support clinical practice, and service excellence within the Sutter system.
Bachelor's Nursing required.
Master's Nursing (MSN), Business (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA) or related field preferred.
Licensures and Certifications
Registered Nurse - State Licensure - RN required
Basic Life Support Certification - BLS required
National administrative or clinical certification through nationally recognized credentialing body required within 1 year of hire or eligibility required
Seasoned leader with proven track record of leading the development of continued learning programs for clinicians in order to ensure ongoing performance improvement across a healthcare system, as typically acquired during 7-10 years in a progressively responsible clinical education position required.
Proven experience and understanding of quality improvement principles and lean methodologies required.
Previous experience working with electronic medical records and Inter-professional Practice Model (IPM) or the Elsevier CPM, preferred. Preferred
Extensive experience collaborating with clinical leadership with a proven ability of driving ongoing performance improvement methods required.
Strong experience providing leadership in the development and sustainment of continued learning required.
Demonstrated experience providing consultation to leaders and staff regarding the most appropriate methods to use in order to increase the educational preparation of the professional workforce required.
Previous experience enhancing the structures and processes used by clinical staff in order to serve as preceptors, instructors, and/or faculty required.
Skills and Knowledge
Strong knowledge & experience implementing evidenced based nursing practices.
Strong knowledge in lean methodologies for nursing leadership & practice.
Thorough knowledge of Interprofessional Practice Model (IPM) or Elsevier Clinical Practice Model (CPM) E.H.R. content, desired.
Strong knowledge of clinical operations, workflow, and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of health care delivery systems, clinical practice, inter-professional practice, and documentation requirements is required.
In-depth knowledge of evidence-based practice, performance improvement, lean methodologies and adult learning methodologies.
Extensive knowledge of the evidence-based theories for leading and facilitating teams and clinical projects.
General knowledge of practices necessary to advance healthcare quality and patient safety.
Proven ability to plan, set, and accomplish multiple objectives, manage projects, and prioritize multiple, ongoing accountabilities.
Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with healthcare executives, physicians, and clinical leaders across the organization.
Demonstrated ability to gain cooperation and support through effective use of influence and persuasion is required.
Demonstrated ability in evidenced-based leadership development, coaching, and mentoring.
Strong customer service focus in all decisions and actions.
Strong analytic, negotiation, and problem solving skills are necessary.
Proven ability to teach and consult with physician, nurses, and quality leaders regarding outcome data.
Must be detail oriented, self directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the proven ability of working with individuals of diverse background and experience to create an effective working environment.
Demonstrated skill in educational methodology and the implementation of clinical education programs.
Demonstrated ability in leading and facilitating inter-professional teams and clinical projects.
Advanced level of computer and application competency including Excel, Power Point, Word, and relational database management systems.
Proven ability to create an environment that values and supports the identification, introduction, assimilation, and promotion of innovation and changes in clinical practice.
