Sutter Health Postgraduate Social Work Fellowship - Social Services (Limited-Term, Full-time, Days) in Sacramento, California
The Social Work Fellow provides psychosocial assessment, individual/group treatment, family therapy, discharge and aftercare planning to patients (e.g., child, adolescents and adults) and their families under the direction of senior social workers in outpatient and inpatient levels of care. The incumbent will develop competency in advanced assessment and treatment of complex diagnosis and situations. The delivery of these treatments will be based on recovery-oriented services, family systems, and evidenced based treatment with a focus on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in acute and short-term settings. The Social Work Fellow will receive clinical supervision in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations which are govern by California's Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences.
The Social Work Fellow will develop a comprehensive understanding of policy, regulations, and accreditation standards that govern acute inpatient psychiatry and outpatient setting, as well as clinical program design. Furthermore, the incumbent will develop management and leadership skills that are necessary to position the social work fellow to become a future leader in the social work field and behavioral health care. Additionally, the incumbent will have an enhance knowledge and appreciation of the health care delivery system and current and future challenges.
The Social Work Fellow will work closely with the Director of Behavioral Health to develop specific performance improvement projects that will enhance the delivery of service, quality, and treatment provided by Therapeutic Services. Other duties may be required or assigned.
The mission of this training program is advanced the practice competency, professionalism, and leadership in the field of clinical social work in psychiatry and behavioral health setting.
This is a limited-term position with an anticipated duration of approximately one year.
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in social work from an accredited university by the Council on Social Work Education.
Will be register as an Associate Clinical Social Worker by California's Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences within 45 days of employment.
Knowledge in psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, interdisciplinary collaboration and linkage with resources.
Knowledgeable in child, adolescent, adult and geriatric psychopathology as well as psychiatric interventions.
Knowledgeable with psychiatric, psychosocial and legal issues and substance misuse/abuse and chemical dependency assessment and treatment, understanding of current insurance benefits and restrictions in the area of mental health, knowledgeable of DSM-IV-TR, family systems therapy and crisis intervention models.
Knowledge of child, elder and dependent adult abuse and domestic violence reporting requirements and other significant regulations affecting clinical social work practice (e.g. Tarasoff, patient-psychotherapist privilege).
Knowledge of suicidal behavior and homicidal, and the skills necessary to assess lethality, and to develop appropriate treatment plans.
Knowledge and understanding of human behavior and communication, psychotherapy, case management, and the influence of cultural and spiritual values in social work practice.
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide psychosocial care appropriate to the age-specific needs of children, adolescents, adults and elders.
Knowledge of individual and family development over the life spans.
Knowledge of substance misuse and abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Knowledge of recovery-oriented services, family systems, and evidenced based treatments (e.g., Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interview, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, etc.).
Demonstrate ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish objectives.
Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.
Must exhibit excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Work is performed with many interruptions.

Must be able to occasionally flex time to handle emergencies.
Must participate in after-hours on-call rotation.
Must work weekends, holidays, and other shifts as assigned.
