Sutter Health Medical Technologist III-Clinical Laboratory* in San Francisco, California


PRIMARY PURPOSE: (Position Summary)

Under the direction of the Administrative Director and Technical/General Manager perform and demonstrate proficiency and understanding of technical procedures on pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in one or more discipline of the Clinical Laboratory. Responsible for validity of test results, result reporting, specimen handling, and maintenance of necessary department records. Serve as a technical and operational resource to medical technologists, laboratory assistants, and specimen handlers. In addition, provides technical and professional support to the section manager regarding problem solving and department supervision.




Bachelor’s Degree in a physical, chemical or biological science from a college or university accredited by the Western Association of Schools or Colleges, or the equivalent thereof.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist as issued by the California Department of Health Services, Laboratory Field Services Section, or other CA discipline specific license.

ASCP or NCA certification preferred.



  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  2. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  3. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.


  1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  2. Ability to compute rate, rate ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

  3. Ability to perform basic statistical functions.


  1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

  2. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


  1. Ability to work with laboratory information system.

  2. Knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word and EXCEL


A minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
