Primary Purpose:

With the guidance and direction of the Clinical Manager, the Unit Coordinator/Clerk organizes and coordinates the support activities of a designated area.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Productivity and Efficiency

  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely and thorough manner and consistently demonstrates effective time management.

  • Facilitates patient admissions, discharges and transfers.

  • Ensures supplies and equipment are readily available in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of the unit.

  • Maintains the unit work areas / work stations in an orderly manner to facilitate work processes.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrates PCIS Proficiency and is able to assist clinical staff with computer related activities and requests (as applicable).

  • Demonstrates intranet and internet competency.

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively utilize telephone, pager, and call light systems.

  • Accurately enters patient care charges or dataper department policy.

  • Receives screens and takes appropriate actions on all incoming telephone calls and refers messages and information to the appropriate person in a timely manner.

  • Welcomes and greets all persons who come to the unit with eye contact and a friendly greeting.

  • Keeps voice low in patient care areas and helps to remind others to do the same.

  • Demonstrates effective inter and intra departmental communications.

Safety

  • Demonstrates understanding and practice of safety behaviors.

  • Reports errors and near misses.

  • Incorporates principles of infection control into daily work.

  • Processes physician orders accurately to reduce the risk of medical error ( as applicable).

  • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate actions to take in emergency situations.

  • Files patient reports and consistently verifies that the report is placed in the correct medical record.

Teamwork and Accountability

  • Assists with the orientation of new staff to the unit.

  • Consistently offers help to others without being asked.

  • Identifies areas for improvement and takes initiative to solve problems.

  • Role models excellence in service.

  • Takes responsibility for keeping up to date on unit communications.

  • Maintains a professional appearance and consistently conducts self in a professional manner.

Management of Responsibilities

  • Effectively utilizes time and sets appropriate priorities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education/experience required

  • Previous experience as an UC in an acute care hospital desirable but not required

  • Requires excellent communication, relationship, and organizational skills.
