The Medical Assistant assists providers by performing duties within the scope of their certification.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Greets and accompanies patients to exam room, obtains and documents appropriate assessment data such as clinical history, vital signs, weight, etc., and documents information into the Electronic Health Record.

  • Communicates with patients in person or by telephone to discuss issues such as lab reports, patient care instructions, home care or preop instructions, in a timely, accurate and professional manner.

  • Assists physician with minor medical procedures by selection and preparing proper equipment and supplies as directed and according to policies and procedures.

Qualifications

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education, including Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assisting program

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers certification

  • MA certification within 12 months of hire: AAMA, CCBMA, NCCT or AMT

  • Basic keyboarding and computer abilities

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; flexibility

Experience

  • Minimum of 160 hours in a clinical/back office externship
