Sutter Health Coding Educator/Coding Analyst III-Coding Training & Auditing-Sunnyvale in Sunnyvale, California


This position will provide coding education for assigned groups, providers, and coders and resolve questions as they arise regarding coding education/audit activities and documentation requirements. The Coding Educator will partner with Lead Auditors and Lead Coders to generate educational opportunities needed to support Foundation coding and documentation compliance. This includes implementing coding education initiatives to improve the accuracy, integrity and quality of patient data, to ensure minimal variation in coding practices and improve the quality of physician documentation within the body of the medical record to support code assignments.

Conducts provider and coder education and training programs per department/Foundation policies.

• Based on identified trends and patterns in coding and documentation variances, provides a tailored education plan.

• Partners with the Coding Managers and the Coding Denials Management Manager to create an education plan that will support reduction in edits and denials that is consistent across all accountable Foundations.

• Assures all educational materials are accurate and methods of education are appropriate


REQUIRED: high school diploma or equivalent; AA degree in Business or Healthcare or equivalent years of related experience; must be accredited/credentialed through recognized professional organization (ie AAPC, AHIMA). Three (3) years experience as a Coding Analyst II.

Must be willing and able to travel to different PAMF sites as needed

Must successfully create and deliver a coding presentation to coding management and others as part of hiring process.

Professional level written and verbal communication skills.

Expert analytical and problem-solving skills

Comprehensive knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-9 (including HCC/RAF), & HCPCS code sets.

PREFERRED: Advanced degree in Business or Healthcare, or equivalent years of related experience; specialty coding certifications (CIRCC, CEMC, etc); teaching credential.
