Sutter Health Nursing Supervisor (Solano) (Per Diem) in Vallejo, California


Job Summary

Directs the operation and supervises personnel in all departments on shifts when management staff are not present in the facility. Oversees staff to ensure patient/ family care is delivered according to the Sutter Difference standards.



Education, including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration

Must have current CA RN license. BLS is required. ACLS preferred. Certification in specialty area preferred. Requires a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or an equivalent combination of formal education, clinical experience and management experience in an acute care environment is required.


Must have thorough knowledge of the administrative and clinical areas supervised with special emphasis on hospital and nursing standards of patient care. Must be well versed in hospital and medical staff organization and structure; fluent in medical terminology to include diagnostic and operative procedures. Must have

comprehensive knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements, including The Joint Commission (TJC), Department of Health Services (DHS), and Title 22 specifications. Knowledge of policies and procedures required to access Pharmacy and dispense drugs during hours when the Pharmacy is closed.

Knowledge of drug/dose/route to provide safe administration of medications removed from Pharmacy when Pharmacists are unavailable. Knowledge of medical records filing system and including legal requirements with respect to HIPAA, TJC, Title XXII, PHI, COBRA and MediCare Conditions of Participation. Knowledge of

Central Distribution. Knowledge of Risk Management, Quality Improvement and Organization Policies/ rationale.


Leadership experience is required. Must have experience as an RN in acute care environment. Direct supervisory/management experience is required, as is typically obtained in approximately two – four years.


Demonstrated competency in nursing management, hospital operations and human resources. Must have well developed interpersonal skills and communication skills, including interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal. Requires conceptual, analytical, and problem identification/ creative resolution skills in a complex

environment. Must be skilled in facilitating/ fostering teamwork. Requires flexibility and the willingness to work flex hours and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Must possess computer skills and knowledge required to support a nursing information system. Proficiency in the use of equipment in the nursing department

strongly preferred, and required within 6 months on the job. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and support implementation of a patient-focused program in a healthcare setting. Must have excellent persuasion and conflict resolution skills to facilitate positive outcomes without formal lines of reporting relationships/
